Eigenwijs schilderen in Nijmegen. Holland.

Last Thursday we went painting in Nijmegen with our little group.
(Leida Blom and Silvester and me.)

It rained quite a bit and then to paint a ship that's called
"stubborn" was funny.

"Eigenwijs schilderen in de regen." Nijmgen, Holland.
(Painting stubborn in the rain.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

I had some time over and it also stopped raining
so I gave it an other shot.

"Twee sterren schepen." Nijmegen, Holland.
(Two starships.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Next week  Amsterdam!

"Blue passing." Arnhem, Holland.

Rainy day today, ... again!
So I thought why not paint at the train station here in Arnhem?
A iron cast passing over the stages.
Also planned to be teared down, ... btw.
Holland really changes into The Netherlands rapidly.

"Blauwe overgang." Arnhem, Holland.
(Blue passing.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Back at Bennik Westervoort, Holland.

Although they fore-casted heavy rain today, the Sun broke
through several times, ...
I didn't want to take any risk so I went to Bennik
a nearby shipyard, where I painted often.

"Terug bij Bennik." Westervoort, Holland.
(Back at Bennik.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Vliehout Arnhem, Holland.

Last year I painted several boats during a festival
here in Arnhem, the so called "Kadedagen."(Harbour-days)
Today I visited one of the boat-builders that was also
on this festival, ... and what a gorgeous place it was.

So in short, ... I'VE GOT A NEW SPOT!!!

Here the builders site:
Vliehout. (Dutch though)

"Vliehout I." Arnhem, Holland.
(Vliewood.) Oil on panel.

Rain whole day, ...

Funny, with rain you look around completely different then
with snow, or night or spring winter or summer.
You even paint on spot your never ever dreamt of painting.
And yet it turned out rather well I think.

This bridge had four of these little houses,
one of them was a nice shelter for me!

"Apeldoornsebrug." Arnhem, Holland.
(Apeldoornse bridge.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

"Hermsen voor het laatst." Westervoort, Holland.

Guess this will be the last time I can paint this
lovely building, it's a building from the 30's I
think and stands on a very prominent spot between
two rivers. (Rhine and the IJssel) You can see this
building from almost everywhere and it's definitely
marks the spot as being a mark on itself as well.

I will miss this lovely building, and for me
it will make me think that in the Netherlands
not much things are kept to get old anymore.

"Hermsen voor het laatst." Westervoort, Holland.
(Hermsen for the last time.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

I painted this building several time, so a short review.

"Hondsbroeksche pley II" Westervoort, Holland.

"Hermsen." Westervoort, Holland.

Bye little friend, ... thanks.

Roermondsplein Arnhem, Holland.

This could well be a new project,

"Painting ugly spots"

One positive thing about it is that the painting is
always better. And it shows that it doesn't matter
what you paint but more how you paint it.

"Roermondsplein." Arnhem, Holland.
(Roermondsplein.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Photo: Groningermuseum.

This square was/is a art-piece as well made by the artist Peter Struycken, in his
heydays it was quite a beautiful square, but now more in use as car park and all
grown over with green algae.

kind of little handy-work, ...

"Krabbelbaantje." Arnhem, Holland.

Visited the local ice skating club again here in Arnhem.
This time during the weekend, that was much more fun,
all those children playing around, ... a nice afternoon!

Chassing the Sun. Arnhem, Holland.

Usually it's a stupid idea to chase changes in your painting
sessions, but this time it worked out quiet well I think.

I started with an all covered sky but at the end of my session
the Sun begun to shine very intense, and it was such a treat
I just couldn't resist. I had to walk a little to get a clear
view to see if the Sun was staying and that seemed to be the
case.

So I took the risk, ...

"Onderlangs richting Artez." Arnhem, Holland.
(Downside heading Artez.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Btw. Artez is an art-centre/school and this little Alley is the main road to
it, so lots of students where passing by, quiet funny. Some of them
didn't want to pay any attention and other found it just wonderful to
see an old painter doing his thing.

Two today

Getting used to the snow, but not really against the
cold though. As I mentioned yesterday we had quiet
some snow last night, ... getting used to it doesn't
mean that it's not a lovely thing, everywhere new
items to paint, ...

"Ingang voormalig St Elisabeths Gasthuis." Arnhem, Holland.
(Former entrance St Elisabeths Gasthuis.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

"Bevroren waterval." Velp, Holland.

Hard to imagine now, but this morning everything was
grey as usual. After painted this scene it really started
to snow again, and now, now everything is winterwonderland (again)

This is a small little river, which was frozen for the most part
very strange to look at, and even stranger to paint, ...

"Bevroren waterval." Velp, Holland.
(Frozen waterfall.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

I gave up.

First time I really had to give up, ... it was soo cold!

I loved the two little boats though lying beside each other,
they made me think of twins. But I didn't got the shape
right and it was getting harder and harder to get the scape
right and Sharp. Ah well, tomorrow a new day!

"De tweeling." Arnhem, Holland.
(The twins.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

To show somewhat of the coldness I made a photo
of a leaking water-hose just beside me where I was painting.

I'll guess water is also aware of windchill, ...

IJskoud!
(Freezing cold.)

"Langs Overhagen." Velp, Holland.

Didn't thought I was able to paint today.
For one I had some businesses at home, and
for second it was sooo cold today, ...

But I did maneged to get out and found this little spot,
quiet please with it.

"Langs Overhagen." Velp, Holland.
(Along Overhagen.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

"Boswerk." Velp, Holland.

Sometimes you just hit a jackpot, ... today I did!
A whole bunch of people where working in the woods
cutting down trees and sawing them in small blocks

One part was a fire-brigade practicing.
Lovely professional with their orange uniforms.
The other part where locals cutting wood for their
fireplaces. Daan the boy with the axes was so kind
to stand model for a few minutes so he's my hero of
the day!

Daan thank you so much!

"Boswerk." Velp, Holland.
(Woodwork.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

"Houthakken met Daan." Velp, Holland.
(Wood-chopping with Daan.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

"Tussen wal en Misti." Arnhem, Holland.

One thing I dislike even more then rain, ...
are the Internet rain radar sites. They forecast
dry weather, but when starting to paint, guess what?!

Anyway, I couldn't turn my back on this old little
boat, laying between a huge barge and the stage.

"Tussen wal en Misti." Arnhem, Holland.
(Between shore and Misti.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Yesterdays effort, Holland.

Not much time, so just the upload.

It was a heavy one though, lots of same values,
took me quiet some time to finished.

"Methenberg." Arnhem, Holland.
(Menthenberg.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

Missed them!

The plan was to meet up with Leida Blom and Silvester in Zutphen
but I guess I made a mistake inputting their mobile numbers
so we missed each other, ...
I did however had a lovely day with sun, and off course lots
of time to paint now, hehehe.

"Oude Bornhof." Zutphen, Holland.
(Old Bornhof.)Oil on panel.
24 x 30 cm.

"Oude wand." Zutphen, Holland.
(Old wall.)Oil on panel.

Leida & Sil, ... to bad but I think we'll meet someday anyhow.

Bridge-painting #, ... I don't know.

Don't know what it is, but I seem to paint a lot from
bridges lately. Think I like the view, and of course
staying on top of things, hehehe.

Just kidding, I'll guess it give me a feeling of distance
and it also remembers me of Wales, ... somewhere.

"Over de Rijnkade." Arnhem, Holland.
(Over the Rhinestage.) Oil on panel.
24 x 30cm.

"Richting de Malburgse bandijk." Arnhem, Holland.
(Ahead the Malburgse Dike.) Oil on panel.
